What photos and details help a locksmith quote for a lock change?
For a planned lock change, a clear photograph can make the first conversation much more useful. Different doors and locking systems need different parts, and a picture of the keyhole alone may leave important details missing. Before requesting locksmith services in London, collect the information below without dismantling the lock.
Start with the reason for the work
Explain whether you want new keys, have lost a key, are dealing with a damaged lock or want to discuss a security upgrade. Tell the locksmith whether the door is currently open or closed and whether you can lock and unlock it using a working key.
If you are locked out or cannot secure the property, say that at the start of the call. A planned replacement quotation and an urgent access problem involve different arrangements. Call 07354 819104 to confirm current availability rather than assuming an attendance time.
Take a wide view of the door
Photograph the inside and outside of the door, including the handle and all visible locks. This helps show whether there is more than one locking point and what hardware is fitted. Only take the outside photograph where it is safe to do so.
You do not need to include the whole building, neighbours or personal documents. For an occupied property, keep faces, house numbers and other private details out of images where they are not needed for the enquiry.
Include close-ups of visible hardware
Take a clear photograph of the keyhole and handle on each side. If the door is already safely open, an image of the edge of the door and any visible markings can also be useful. Do not force the door open, remove screws or dismantle parts simply to obtain a picture.
Photograph any visible brand or model markings. Tell the locksmith if you cannot read them. The pictures help with an initial assessment, but measurements or an inspection may still be needed before the correct replacement can be confirmed.
Explain the key and access situation
State whether a working key is available and how many new keys you would like. Explain whether the current lock turns smoothly or whether the problem changes when the door is open or closed. Describe the symptom in plain language, such as “the handle lifts but the key will not turn”, rather than trying to diagnose the fault yourself.
For a landlord or agent booking, confirm who can authorise the work and how the technician will gain access. If keys need collecting from an agent, provide the collection arrangements and available times when organising the booking.
Ask what the quotation includes
Before agreeing the appointment, ask about labour, parts, attendance charges, the number of keys and any known conditions that could change the price. Explain your preferred date and whether the appointment has to fit around a tenant, agent or building manager.
If the lock needs inspection before a final price can be given, ask what is known now and what will need confirmation on site. Avoid choosing solely from an advertised starting price without understanding the scope.
Send a clear enquiry
